LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - The man accused of hitting two New Prairie United School Corporation mini buses with a box truck in LaPorte County earlier this year is facing new and amended charges.
According to court documents, the amended/additional charges come after a blood test found that 41-year-old Shawn Akison had fentanyl in his system at the time of the crash.
The LaPorte County Sherriff’s Office says Akison now faces the following charges:
Operating while intoxicated causing catastrophic injury (felony)
Operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injur (felony)
Criminal recklessness (felony)
Criminal recklessness (felony)
Operating while intoxicated endangerment (misdemeanor)
Akison was arrested after the crash on May 8 at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Fail Roa
