The 37-year-old man who died in his El Paso County jail cell has been identified, according to an update Tuesday from the Coroner's Office.
Dequan Ward was found unresponsive in his bunk bed by deputies and medical staff around 4:30 a.m. Friday and was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later after lifesaving efforts were attempted, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was the jail's third death in less than a month.
Investigators said in a news release Friday that they did not find any obvious signs of foul play, self-harm or assault. The Sheriff's Office said it did not have any updates on the investigation as of Tuesday.
Ward was arrested Thursday for drug-related charges, court records show. He had a long criminal history related to theft, drugs and robbery dating back to 2009. Most
