Westport select board member Manuel Soares Jr. will be held in jail until late September, following his arrest Monday evening on a Westport charge of violating an abuse prevention order.
Soares, 63, was arrested by Westport police just prior to the start of the board’s regular 6 p.m. meeting. He was held overnight at the Ash Street Jail in New Bedford and arraigned Tuesday morning before Second Division District Court Judge Thomas Lynch, at Fall River District Court.
While bail on the Westport charge was set at $1,000, Lynch ordered Soares held as a violator on outstanding charges against him filed by Dartmouth police , as the alleged protection order violation constituted a violation of the terms of his release on those charges, which were filed in third division distric
