NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Nacogdoches County will hold a $75 million bond election this November to fund a new county jail.

Commissioners voted in favor of calling for the election during the court's Aug. 12 meeting. Election Day will be held Nov. 4.

Officials said a committee gave recommendations to the Nacogdoches County Commissioners Court.. Those in the courtroom noted overcrowding has been issue at the jail for a few years. Nacogdoches County is currently having to house some of its inmates in other counties.

The committee recommended a new jail facility that would cost $70 to 80 million, housing about 570 inmates.

Nacogdoches County Judge Greg Sowell said prior to the vote for the election, the facility is the people's jail and the commissioners court needs their opinion. In the vote,
