NORTH CAROLINA — North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein declared a state of emergency Tuesday as Hurricane Erin makes its way towards the East Coast.

Gov. Stein is telling residents to make "final preparations along the coast," including staying informed on Erin's movements, having a disaster kit and making a plan, which includes checking your evacuation route. He added that officials are getting resources and personnel together to help along the coast.

A state of emergency had already been issued in Dare and Hyde Counties, and both Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands are carrying out mandatory evacuation orders.
