MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Mark Jantzer was officially sworn in as mayor of Minot during Monday’s regular city council meeting.
That means Minot city leaders now have to fill his vacant seat on the council.
During the meeting, Minot City Council members voted to fill the vacancy by appointing a citizen. But they want letters of intent from interested citizens justifying why they should serve on the council.
The council could have also held another special election, but the soonest that could have happened is December.
City Attorney Stefanie Stalheim clarified it’s actually the council’s decision whether they go that route, and not the public’s choice, according to state law.
