URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Planned construction work at the Florida Avenue Residence halls on the University of Illinois campus is now expected to last into the school year following a safety incident last month.
On July 24, two construction workers were hurt as they were working on the exterior of Oglesby Hall. The brick exterior of the building suddenly collapsed, and the bricks fell on the workers as they were on a suspended platform next to the building.
The falling bricks also damaged the platform's controls, leaving the workers stranded nine stories above the ground. The Urbana Fire Department brought them safely to the ground using a boom lift.
The incident led to the contractor working on the building taking additional steps to ensure worker safety, University Housing said in a news
