SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio artist is remembering the "Queen of Tejano Music" with a new mural near the downtown area.

The mural depicts the legendary Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, whose life was tragically cut short when her fan club president Yolanda Saldívar shot her on March 31, 1995 in a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. Saldívar was up for parole in the spring of 2025 but was denied by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles - a decision that was gratefully accepted by the late singers family.

The new creation, painted by Roland Alvarez , is located at the intersection of north Leona and west Houston Street near the Historic Market Square.

Alvarez posted on Instagram about creating the mural to honor Selena's memory.
