Finally recognized: Charles Town African American Cemetery dedicated

CHARLES TOWN — After many years of research and the appointment of a Mayor’s Select Committee, the grounds of the Charles Town African American Cemetery at the intersection of Avis and Seminary streets have been dedicated.

At a ceremony on Aug. 17, what had previously been referred to as a “Potter’s Field,” was memorialized as the town’s African American cemetery.
