NEW ORLEANS —

Orleans Parish has reported its second human case of the West Nile virus.

The second human case was reported Tuesday. The first was recorded on Aug. 8. Advertisement

West Nile virus cycles between wild birds and mosquitoes and can be transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.

The city of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board will conduct areal spraying Tuesday between 8:30 p.m. and 1 a.m., weather permitting, in the following areas:

Central City, Milan, Touro and the Garden District, bounded by South Claiborne Avenue, Tchoupitoulas Street, Napoleon Avenue and the Pontchartrain Expressway

Uptown/Carrollton and the 14th Ward, bounded by South Claiborne Avenue, St. Charles Avenue, Broadway Street and Jefferson Avenue
