Last week, President Donald Trump initiated a federal takeover of Washington, D.C., declaring a national emergency in the city in order to seize control of the local police department and to deploy hundreds of National Guardsmen into the capital’s streets. As the Trump administration continues to allege that D.C. crime is out of control, the federal government is tapping several Republican-led states to send their own Guardsmen into the city.

Tennessee governor Bill Lee has approved the deployment of his state’s National Guard to D.C. and will be sending about 160 members to the nation’s capital, according to WKRN , a local ABC affiliate. The state joins five other red states that have pledged their support to the Trump administration’s federal takeover.
