One of the worst natural disasters to hit Connecticut struck 70 years ago today.

On Aug. 19, 1955, rivers across the state raged out of their banks, destroying entire villages and killing nearly 100 people.

The records from the Flood of '55 still stand today. The amount of rain that fell that August is unrivaled; no other event in modern times comes close to what happened 70 years ago.
