TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - On Tuesday, hundreds packed the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall to celebrate and remember the life of former Florida State University president John Thrasher .

His family, including his wife Jean Thrasher, spoke of his lasting legacy at the tribute.

“He loved his family. He loved his country. He loved his state. He loved Florida State University. And, he was starting to like the Gators,” she said.

Thrasher passed away from cancer in May at the age of 81, but his wife said he remained determined through the diagnosis.

“He never gave up hope and he never complained. He gave us comfort when we all needed it the most. He appreciated the people that took care of him,” Jean Thrasher said. “We will carry on, because that’s what you’d want us to do. And, we will be stron
