VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Areas across Southwest Georgia have become hotspots for illegal dumping, especially when it comes to large items. As the trash piles up, it has left people wondering who is really responsible for cleaning trash up when it’s on private property.
“It’s the property owners job now to put up fences, put up barriers, put up cameras, whatever... It’s been going on for so long that code enforcement has not pushed the property owners to take care of their properties. So, [that has] created that monster, and the bigger that monster [gets], the harder it is to destroy it,” said Bobby McKenzie, a Valdosta resident.
For the last five years, McKenzie has been a strong advocate behind eliminating waste that could reach the rivers and streams.
