ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque City Council has pulled its moratorium on fiber internet installation permits. Earlier this year, the council implemented a moratorium and created a working group to reevaluate permitting standards after homeowners complained that fiber companies had cut water lines and damaged their property. The moratorium was set to take effect in September.
But Monday night, City Councilor Dan Champine pushed to rescind it, saying the working group made progress. "Based on the work that they put in and obviously the amount of effort from all parties have shown, I don't want to penalize not only the citizens of Albuquerque but also the parties that have provided so much information and guidance and collaboration," said Champine.
