A Minnesota man who initially told police he found his mother dead in their Duluth home was allegedly recorded admitting he killed her, according to charges filed Tuesday in St. Louis County Court.

Nathan Douglas Davin, 46, is accused of fatally shooting his 74-year-old mother, Maedean Davin , at their East Hillside residence late Saturday night, the Duluth Police Department said in a news release.

The victim appeared to have been sleeping in a recliner when she was shot in the face at close range , according to court filings reviewed by the Duluth News Tribune.

Police say the suspect knocked on a neighbor’s door just before 11 p.m., reporting “something about a fatality.”
