The Oregon Health Authority on Tuesday lifted the recreational use advisory on the Willamette River in Portland after determining a harmful algal bloom has dissipated.

Health officials monitored the water and confirmed that the level of cyanotoxins is now back below recreational guidelines.

Still, health officials recommended staying alert for signs of cyanobacteria blooms and avoiding areas where the water is “foamy, scummy, thick like paint, pea-green or blue-green” or where thick, brownish-red mats or bright green clumps are visible in the water, according to a statement from the Oregon Health Authority.
