DARE COUNTY, N.C. — While Hurricane Erin isn't expected to make landfall, Dare County leaders are still urging residents to take their warnings seriously. Evacuation orders are in place for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, where significant storm surges are expected.
"It is imperative that any visitor on Hatteras Island who have not yet evacuated to do so immediately," said Drew Pearson, Dare County Emergency Management Coordinator.
Currently, evacuation orders are only set for Hatteras and Ocracoke Island. However, county leaders in other areas of the Outer Banks said they are closely monitoring and may put out their own, depending on the storm's trajectory.
