PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) lifted an advisory for recreation on the Willamette River in Portland after determining a toxic algae bloom has mostly gone away.

OHA said the levels are now back within safe recreational guidelines.

However, health officials recommend keeping alert for signs of algae bloom and avoiding areas where the water is “foamy, scummy, thick like paint, pea-green or blue-green.”

The toxins, called cyanotoxins, can cause sickness in humans if consumed and can kil dogs.
