PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Tuesday for hitting and killing another man with a car in the Buckman neighborhood.

Shane McKeever, 22, was arrested on February 25 after court documents say he intentionally drove a car into 48-year-old David R. Bentley at 40 to 50 miles per hour.

Bentley was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries.

Court documents say McKeever also hit several tents and tried to hit another person at a homeless camp near Southeast Belmont Street and Southeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard before ditching the car.

Witnesses caught McKeever and held him down until officers arrived. Police say a person had also fired shots at McKeever, but was never found.

McKeever pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaught
