OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Hurricane Katrina impacted many in the South, leaving some experiencing great loss and others with only a remnant of what they once knew as home.
Homeland Security for Ouachita Parish says when hurricanes or any severe weather is in the forecast, preparedness and evacuation is key.
In cases where severe weather poses high risk, he recommends leaving rather than staying.
As a last resort, some elected officials may even use contraflow to evacuate as many people as possible.
