MENTOR, Ohio -- Unemployment ticked upward in July across Northeast Ohio, with Lake and Geauga counties both reporting higher jobless rates compared with a year ago, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Lake County’s unemployment rate rose to 4.7% in July 2025, up from 4.6% in June and from 4.0% in July 2024. The county had about 131,600 workers in its labor force last month, with 6,200 unemployed, according to state data.

Geauga County also saw an increase, reaching 4.4% in July 2025, up from 4.3% in June and 3.7% one year earlier. Its labor force totaled 51,800, with about 2,300 people unemployed, the department reported.
