RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) -- A teenager was hospitalized with what appear to be "serious injuries" after running across the street, and being hit by a Champaign Police car in Rantoul on Tuesday, authorities said.

Rantoul Police Department, Rantoul Fire Department and Arrow Ambulance responded near the intersection of East Champaign Avenue and South Garrard Street around 3:30 p.m. for a car vs. pedestrian accident. When the first responders arrived, they learned that a 13-year-old boy was hit by a Champaign Police car, the Rantoul Police Department said.

The teenager was transported to a nearby hospital.

Preliminary information indicates that the teenager ran onto the street from the Credit Union One parking lot. He crossed both eastbound lanes, and collided with the Champaign Police car, whi
