CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) - Luke Altmyer has thrown a lot of touchdowns, including 22 in 2024, but it might be the recent preseason accomplishment which makes him equally, if not more, proud.
Altmyer was one of six Illini football players to be named a team captain on Friday.
"Something that you dream about as a kid, being a captain - a leader of a big group of people," Altmyer said. "Something I'll carry with me forever... means a lot, it's a big deal."
The senior QB hopes to attack the leadership role.
"Captains are leaders, visionaries, people who are not afraid of new territory like this team," he said. "We're facing a lot of new expectation, a lot of new waters. I mean, approaching it with the right attitude of a Christlike mindset, being tough, resilient and a lot of love and care.
