DICKINSON, ND (KXNET) — This week, neighbors in Dickinson elected a new person to fill a spot on the city commission.
After Monday's special election, Russell Murphy received the most votes with 528.
He defeated Matthew Rothstein, the next closest challenger, who received around 178 votes.
Murphy opted to run for the seat, which was vacated when city commissioner John Odermann resigned to accept a job with Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak's office.
"We know that we're never going to be exactly where we want to be; we're probably going to end up somewhere in the middle," Murphy said. "And I think that's something I strive for, is, you have to listen to both sides. Find where we agree, and then work through the disagreements."
Murphy says the term runs through 2028.
