GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - On Tuesday, the commissioners from Mesa County, along with the Grand Junctional Regional Airport Authority, moved forward with the motion to move forward with the runway project receiving multiple grants from the FAA. The grants total almost $200 million for the runway project.

“We feel confident that we are on track for the runway to open by 2029. We're working with our partners at the FAA to set things up to where we may be able to open the runway as early as 2028,” Angela Padalecki, the CEO for the Grand Junction Regional Airport, said.

Padalecki says grants like these will cover up to 90% of the project, but an additionally $17 million was given in 2024, which helped the airport to only cover 5% from their budget. Giving the total amount from grants cov
