LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

After felony arrests of alleged copper wire thieves and the creation of a multi-agency joint task force, Louisville’s top leader signed a new ordinance to continue fighting the problem.

Imagine if you, as a taxpayer, had to constantly foot the bill to repair millions in damaged signs on the interstate or were forced to drive on a dangerously dark road because the street lights were out.

Even worse, what if you could not reach 911 dispatchers for an emergency?

These are some of the reasons Louisville officials are working hard to crack down on thieves stealing copper wire from light poles and telephone lines around the Metro.

“I'm thrilled about what we've accomplished in just ten months,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg.
