BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Tuesday evening, Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich told the city council a tax increase is needed to make up a $2 million budget shortfall.
Gilich outlined a few possible solutions to balancing the budget, but the one he says will bring immediate relief is raising the millage rate. Millage is how property taxes are calculated.
The mayor is proposing a three mill increase, which would add $60 a year to the tax bill for a family with a home valued at $200,000, according to the mayor.
No vote on a tax hike was taken Tuesday night.
Wednesday, the council will hold a special meeting at 11 a.m. to discuss the possibility of raising the tax rate.
