KENT COUNTY, MI – A private high school near Grand Rapids has delayed the first day of classes following the death of a teacher.

Mark VanStee, a social studies teacher and coach at South Christian High School, died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, the school said in a Facebook post.

The Byron Center school canceled all activities on Tuesday evening, as well as the first day of school, which was scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 20.

“It is difficult to put together any coherent thoughts or words at this moment,” Head of School Aaron Meckes wrote in the Facebook post . “Please pray for Mark’s wife and kids, his friends, his colleagues, his students, and our school community.”

The cause of death was not mentioned in the Facebook post.
