PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday celebrated two projects aimed at revitalizing Portsmouth’s riverfront and improving the health of the Ohio River.
DeWine joined local leaders to break ground on the Portsmouth Riverfront Park Project, a $34.2 million effort funded through the Appalachian Community Grant Program’s Wonderful Waterfront Initiative.
Plans include a redesigned Alexandra Point Park with a new scenic overlook, an amphitheater for concerts and community events, a riverwalk trail network, an RV campground and improved access to the Ohio River.
Launched in May 2024, the Wonderful Waterfront Initiative awarded $204 million to 12 counties to expand access to local waterways, boost tourism and revitalize downtown riverfront areas.
