DULUTH, Minn. — A second-degree murder charge was filed Tuesday in St. Louis County Court against Nathan Davin, 46, of Duluth.

Court documents accuse Davin of shooting his mother, MaeDean Davin, 74, of Duluth in the face at close range while she sat in her recliner.

Officers on scene described her injury as a “devastating gunshot wound.”

The shooting was reported just before 11 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 1500-block of North 9th Avenue East in Duluth.

Police said Davin first denied shooting his mother and said he woke up to find her dead.

But the story changed at the Duluth Public Safety building while investigators were collecting physical evidence from Davin, including his bloodied boxers.
