SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield is hosting National Night Out events throughout western Massachusetts, with celebrations taking place in East Springfield and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods.
These events are part of a nationwide initiative to foster community engagement and strengthen relationships between residents and local law enforcement.
"What this event does is allow them to go, whether it be police or fire or ambulance or even tJo, to ask questions and to get to know our leaders in the community so they can feel comfortable going to them with questions, concerns or even ideas," said Juan Latorre, Vice President of the Sixteen Acres Civic Association.
In Sixteen Acres, families gathered at Greenleaf Park for the first time, enjoying music, food, and a range of fun activities.
