INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis grandmother was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the drug-related death of her 2-year-old grandson.

Tasha Mulcahy pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death in Amani Day's Oct. 2023 death.

IMPD child abuse detectives responded to Mulcahy's home on Oct. 20, 2023 to investigate the death of the boy, who had previously been reported as healthy.

His death was later determined to be from acute fentanyl intoxication.

Mulcahy told police she and her husband were Day's primary caregivers after her daughter died of an overdose in early 2023.
