LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Community activists say they want to stop a religious group from offering optional religious instruction in Oldham County .

Under Kentucky’s Senate Bill 19, public school boards can partner with organizations that offer student instruction through religious or ethical programs. Parents who sign off can let their students join the outside partner during the school day for “moral instruction.”

LifeWise Academy says it hopes to start with a pilot program at Locust Grove.

But Tuesday night, the group Kentucky Citizens for Democracy argued it’s a threshold the community should not cross.
