While drunken-driving statistics largely have remained flat in New Mexico for much of the last decade, the state continues to have one of the worst rates of alcohol-involved deadly crashes in the country.
That’s a problem a Stanley woman hopes to address through her new company, Shannon’s Designated Drivers, a service through which those who have consumed too much alcohol can be driven home in their own vehicle.
Shannon Rhea — a transplant from Atlanta, where she said she operated a construction company for 20 years — is offering the service in the Santa Fe, Moriarty and Edgewood areas. The difference between her service and taxi or ride-sharing services, she said, is that a driver for her company will take a person home in their own car with another driver in a company car following.
