New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo is looking for campaign help from an unlikely source, according to a report: President Donald Trump .

Politico is reporting that Cuomo, a former governor of New York state, told the crowd at a recent fundraiser in the Hamptons that he believed Trump will ultimately help his independent bid for mayor.

Cuomo was defeated by Zohran Mamdani in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary in June, but stayed in the race on an independent line. In November he will face Mamdani, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and incumbent Eric Adams, also running as an independent.

Cuomo believes that Trump will support whichever candidate has the best chance to stop Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist.
