PARADISE — Two years after Carl Walker began receiving kidney dialysis, his sisters, Liz Carroll and Jean Lea, continue to throw him small birthday parties.

The trio met up on Tuesday at the Paradise Aquatic Park with cupcakes, JT’s ice cream and candles shaped as “88” perched atop the cupcakes.

“Thank you Lord, for sending knowledge to the scientists and the vacuum makers,” Walker said.

“That’s what he calls dialysis,” his sister Lea replied, chuckling.

The three joked and laughed as Lea fought hard against the wind to light the candles, finally succeeding and keeping them lit while slowly moving it toward her brother to blow out.

Walker said he is the oldest person at his treatment center, where he goes three times a week.
