(NewsNation) — A weekslong fight over Texas’ congressional map could come to a head Wednesday, as representatives from the Lone Star State are set to vote on the changes after delays from House Democrats.

Texas Republicans first called a special legislative session in June aimed at securing five additional House seats for President Donald Trump.

Lawmakers weren't able to cast votes, however, because dozens of House Democrats broke quorum and fled the state in protest, ultimately causing the House to gavel out.

Tuesday's vote, part of a second special legislative session, comes as protests are expected outside the Texas state Capitol.
