Lawyers for Karen Read are seeking the dismissal of four of five counts pending against her in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of her boyfriend, after a criminal jury in June acquitted her of killing him three years ago.

In a motion filed last week in Plymouth Superior Court, where the civil suit is pending, Read’s attorneys said they’re seeking the dismissal of four counts alleging negligent or reckless infliction of emotional distress on John O’Keefe’s parents as well as his niece, whom he had taken in to raise with her brother following their parents’ deaths.

Read’s lawyers said the claims in those four counts are “subsumed” by a statute that’s the subject of a fifth wrongful death count pending against her in the suit. Her lawyers said “none of the plaintiffs can
