A heavy National Guard vehicle reportedly T-boned a driver in Washington, D.C. in an early morning crash that required rescuers to deploy the jaws of life.
D.C. Fire confirmed to WUSA9 that the crash occurred at the intersection of 8th Street and North Carolina Avenue Southeast.
A witness told PoPville that the incident happened at around 6:15 AM when "a cop car with sirens followed by 3-4 large military vehicles were heading north."
"From my viewpoint, this was clearly not an intentional stopping/crashing of a vehicle," the witness said.
The witness indicated that emergency responders needed the jaws of life to rescue the victim. Another witness on Reddit also reported that the jaws of life were used.
According to WUSA9, the National Guard operation was part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on crime in D.C.
"[H]aving military equipment on civilian streets is inherently dangerous to city residents," the witness noted on Reddit.
