HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- An investigation is underway after a Salisbury man was shot and killed as he was getting into his car in Columbia late Monday.

Officers received word of the shooting just after 10:30 p.m. and responded to a parking lot off Dove Sail Lane and Merriweather Drive to investigate. There, they found a man in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Howard County police.

The man, a 39-year-old from Salisbury who was staying in Columbia, died at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators that a male suspect approached the man as he was getting into his car, shooting him at close range.

The unknown suspect then fled from the scene.
