There are 16 new football head coaches in the Orlando area this season, and most of those men have plenty of adversity to overcome.
At schools such as Apopka, Timber Creek, East River and Lyman, new coaches are looking to fill holes left by numerous players who opted to transfer away. But for Patrick Browning, the new man at Class 5A powerhouse Edgewater, he doesn’t have to face those circumstances.
At Edgewater, there is an aura of new energy pumped into a program that became a perennial power under coach Cameron Duke, who went 84-16 with seven district titles and two state runner-up showings in eight seasons. The departure of former coach Duke to a job in Georgia did not create mass chaos.
