GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Supreme Court has declined to hear the United Methodist’s separation case.
On Aug. 13, 2025, the Supreme Court said it will not entertain matters in its original jurisdiction when the matter can be determined in a lower court in the first instance.
This comes after members of the South Carolina Annual Conference approved the closure of 113 local churches whose members have voted to separate from The United Methodist Church in 2023.
