The Special Investigations Unit cleared a Waterloo Regional Police officer for firing a conducted energy weapon at a Cambridge man during a domestic dispute.

Director Joseph Martino determined the officer’s use of an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) on a 57-year-old Cambridge man on April 25 constituted lawful force. Martino found there were no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offence.

Police were called to the Super 8 hotel in Cambridge, at approximately 10:45 a.m., by a woman saying her partner had threatened to kill her, and he had a knife and hatchet in a room at the hotel.
