A 34-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday night after losing control of his moped and crashing on Wilhelmina Rise, Honolulu police said.

The collision occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Sierra Drive, south of Mikahala Way, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section. Police said the man was traveling southbound when he failed to negotiate a left turn, struck a curb and was ejected onto a private concrete driveway.

Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Police said the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Investigators have not yet determined whether speed, alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
