DIMMITT, Texas (KFDA) - The Dimmitt Police Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating after a 9-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a pool.

In a social media post , officials say on August 19 at around 4:51 p.m., Dimmitt Police Department officers and Castro County EMS personnel were dispatched to the area of SW 4th St.

Police say an unresponsive 9-year-old girl was located in a water tank being used as a backyard swimming pool.

According to officials, medical assistance was provided on scene and the child was then transported to an area hospital where she later passed away.

The Dimmitt Police Department will not be releasing the identity of the child.

This investigation remains active and no other information will be released at this time.
