SANTEE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The Santee Fire Department has acquired a new Type 3 fire engine, enhancing its capabilities just as San Diego County enters the peak of wildfire season.
This specialized vehicle, designed for off-road firefighting, is equipped with a 500-gallon water tank, pump and hoses, making it ideal for tackling fires in difficult-to-access wildland areas.
"The new tool is a vital addition to the Santee Fire Department," said local Fire Chief Harley Wallace.
The acquisition of the new fire engine was celebrated with a traditional "push-in ceremony" on Wednesday, marking its official entry into service.
The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation and the San Diego River Conservancy contributed more than $400,000 towards the engine's total cost of $626,000.
