TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Crews with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) are taking steps to make things as safe as possible during extremely hot days.
In addition to workers being paired up with a partner to watch their back, electrolyte push pops are bought in bulk for them to have after they get off work.
Crews have been reporting to work at 6 a.m. for more than a month and a half, working four 10-hour days per week to allow for extra recovery time during the week.
ALDOT’s Traffic Administrator for the Western District Brett Paulk says the most important thing is to make sure their workers are mentally fresh and aware from a safety standpoint.
“Get a little dizzy, get a little lightheaded, and the next thing you know you’re stepping out in front of a vehicle,” Paulk
