Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato responded today to reports of threats leveled against a Muslim city council candidate in the upcoming Aug. 26 election.
“We will not let hate win,” Brocato said.
The mayor issued the statement Tuesday afternoon after the revelation of death threats, slurs and other invective from social media aimed at candidate Tanveer Patel. The Hoover Police Department is investigating and the FBI has been informed, according to Patel’s attorney William White.
According to the Hoover Sun, White said that authorities had identified a suspect in Georgia responsible for some of the comments.
Patel discussed the threats at a press conference earlier Tuesday.
