The suspect in the Birmingham killing of a man who was fatally shot while he was waiting to go to work in Woodlawn has been captured in Louisiana.

Harold Dailey, 35, is charged with capital murder in the Aug. 11 slaying of 51-year-old John Byron Roulaine, police announced Tuesday.

Just after 5 a.m., that Tuesday, East Precinct officers received a call of a person inside a van the parking lot of a building in the 5500 block of First Avenue North.

Roulaine was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:19 a.m.

Initially, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald, officers could not determine how the man had died.

Once the body was taken to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, they determined Roulaine had been shot.
